Glenside
Fire Protection District Fire
Investigation Unit Background A need for fire investigation was mandated when the State of Illinois passed legislation requiring all fires to be investigated. The Glenside Fire Protection Districts investigation unit is comprised of Lt. Robert Garon, Deputy Chief James Larsen and FF Michael De Lillo. Additionally, the unit is supported by two investigators from the Glendale Heights Police Department and by the Dupage County Fire Investigation Task Force, of which Lt. Garon is a member. Currently, there is one investigator serving on each of the three shifts, but all investigators are available 24/7. Goal The Goal of the Fire Investigation Unit is to investigate all fires in a professional and scientific manner, consider the weight of the evidence and arrive at an expert opinion as to the cause of the fire, using nationally accepted standards. To achieve this goal all members continue with their investigation training on a monthly basis. Vision
By striving to determine the cause of every fire through this goal, the
community is served when hazardous conditions are identified and the general
public is informed and educated through the Public Education Division of the
Glenside Fire Protection District. A subsequent goal of the Fire Investigation
Unit would be to reduce the number of fires and the resulting injuries through
this campaign of public awareness.
