Have a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving Holiday!

This holiday season the Glenside Fire District would like to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday.  To ensure a safe holiday season, remember these safety tips:

Cooking

·        Make sure, when working in the kitchen that you do not leave your long sleeves down. When cooking, they can catch on fire.

·        Make sure all pot handles are facing in and not facing out. The hot contents can spill on you if you bump into a handle.

·        If a grease fire starts, cover it with a lid. Do not throw flour or baking soda on the fire, as it could flash and burn you. Call 911 immediately.

Decorations

·        Keep all decorations away from heat sources like fireplaces, candles, space heaters, and oil lamps.

·        Keep small decorations up high on your tree to prevent children from placing them in their mouth.

·        Remember that decorations can burn fast and get out of control, so please be careful with their use.

Christmas trees

·        If your tree is real, remember to water it as soon as you get it and every day so the tree stays fresh and moist.

·        Keep your tree away from heat sources, like fireplaces, and space heaters.  Whether it is real or artificial.  A Christmas tree can burn rapidly.

·        Do not use lights that are in poor condition, only use UL approved lights that are in good condition and or do not have a short or bare wires.

·        Make sure your artificial tree is flame proof.

·        Make sure you remove your tree from your house as soon as the holidays are over; a dry old tree is a very dangerous fire hazard.
